Members of Guru Gobind Singh Avenue and Surya Enclave held a meeting with the traffic police on Thursday, seeking solution to the illegal parking of trucks and tankers on the service road of National Highway (NH-1).

Rajan Gupta, president of the Federation of Residents Welfare Society, said residents of Guru Gobind Singh Avenue and Surya Enclave opposite the Indian Oil depot bypass were suffering from illegal parking of trucks and gas petrol filled tankers on thr service road of NH-1 up to Lamba Pind Chowk.

During the meeting with the traffic police, members raised their concern and said, “Many accidents happen daily due to the illegal parking and we have talked several times with the traffic police officials. Even MLA Rajinder Beri had raised the issue, but to no avail.”

There is no permanent solution, but action is taken just for one or two days at the maximum, the members rued. During the meeting, the members also put across the fact that the Deputy Commissioner had clearly ordered in traffic safety meeting to impound trucks parked outside the depot.

Members said they were hoping for a suitable action despite the presence of a strong lobby of truck/tankers owners.

After the meeting, members said the police had assured them that all trucks or tankers illegally parked would be challaned and regular checking will start.
