RCF rolls out UDAY double-decker coaches

Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, today rolled out the first rake of UDAY (Utkrisht Double-Decker Air Conditioned Yatri) coaches. This rake includes six AC chair car, three AC chair coaches with pantry and two power cars.

Each air-conditioned chair car has 120 seats. There are 104 seats in the AC chair car with a pantry car wherein the dining space is provided in its middle deck, in which passengers can eat their favorite food. There is also a provision for food and tea-coffee vending machines. A LED screen has also been provided for entertainment in the dining area. The coaches have spruced up interiors by pasting of colour films on panels. The colourful and comfortable seats add to the ambience of the interiors. Each coach has LCD screens to provide information to passengers. The exterior of entire train has been decorated by pleasing vinyl wrapping. The air suspension system with multiple shock absorbers is provided for a comfortable ride.

Each coach has two modular type lavatories with bio toilets fitted with soap dispensers, etc. A wash basin and a large mirror had also been provided in the space along the lavatory. Smoky detection alarms have also been installed in each coach for safety.

Earlier, the RCF had manufactured the first air-conditioned double-decker train of the Indian Railways in 2011, of which six rakes are successfully running on various routes of the railways. Hence, the RCF has again been entrusted by the Indian Railways to manufacture double-decker coaches with several new and passenger-friendly features.
