Jalandhar, December 8

The Doaba Rajput Welfare Association today condemned the state government for putting Sikh Rajputs under the category of Backward Classes.

The Rajput community has been taking the development as an insult to the community. Addressing media persons here today, Jiwan Singh, association president, said, “We never urged the government to put them under the category of the backward class. This is an act of dishonouring the community.”

Members of the association said members had been opposing the casteism for long and that they believe in equality and respect for all religions. They said how could a community, which fought for the country for several years, come under the category of backward class. They said Rajput Sikhs of Doaba region were very influential people and they felt insulted with the government’s decision.
