Jalandhar, July 29

A contractual employee of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) died of electrocution here today at the electricity complaint centre in the Kot Kishan Chand area.

The victim was identified as 33-year-old Parvej Kumar, a resident of Purian Mohalla, Khingra Gate.

As per information from Station House Officer, Division No. 3, Resham Singh, the incident came to light around 6 am when they received information from the Electricity Department that an employee died of electrocution.

He said the deceased went to the complaint centre at Kot Kishan Chand to repair some wires lying dysfunctional. Inside the complaint centre, there was an electricity transformer and close to it some wires were lying open.

“Parvej failed to realise that the power supply was on while touching the wires with his bare hands. The intensity of the electric shock was high as the power supply was coming directly from the transformer, due to which he died on the spot,” the SHO said, adding that the deceased’s body was badly electrocuted and it took officials a long time to cut the wires to separate the body from it.

He said family members of the deceased would be given compensation as per government norms. They would take action after a probe. — TNS
