Phagwara, August 21

After a two hour long dharna organised by irate residents before the Power House here, electricity supply to more than 50 villages was resumed after a gap of 13 hours after 10.30 pm on Sunday night.

Power supply was cut off as rainwater had entered the Power House located on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road during a torrential rain which lashed the entire town on Sunday. With the efforts of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jyoti Bala, Senior XEN Ashok Sabharwal and SDO, Water Supply, Pardeep Chattani, rainwater could be drained out to some extent but the entire machinery was again pressed into service to drain out the accumulated water from the Power House.

Torrential rain had inundated the Power House located on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road. The link roads of village Panchhat-Baghana and near the Bein crossing adjacent to Rawalpindi and Chiherru, caved in due to heavy rain.

Some parts of an old building were seen to have collapsed during the rain in the old locality of the town. SDM Jyoti Bala said the civil administration was co-ordinating with the XEN Drainage to initiate preventive measures .
