An assistant registrar and an inquiry officer of Cooperative Societies have lodged a complaint with SSP, Rural, Jalandhar, against the secretary of the Sanghwal Agricultural and Multi-Purpose Society near Adampur for committing a fraud of Rs 7.07 lakh with him.
The complaint has been lodged against secretary Buta Ram, who has also been placed under suspension, Narinder Nath, the inquiry officer of societies. Officials have alleged that Buta Ram had himself amassed the amount which was to be deposited in the accounts of the villagers in the society. It has been alleged that while Buta Ram had gone missing earlier on May 5, he could again get missing after appearing once on May 17.
Among the members whose cases have been brought on police records are Kulwinder Singh, who has alleged that Buta Ram had got an amount of Rs 1.57 lakh withdrawn from his account on March 28 last by putting his fake signatures on his cheque. Harvir Kaur of Sanghwal village has alleged that an amount of Rs 3 lakh was taken from her on January 9, 2015, for fixed deposit by issuing her a fake receipt and taking away the entire amount with himself. Besides, an amount of Rs 50,000, which she had deposited in her savings account too, had been siphoned off by him. Kuldeep Kaur too has said in a complaint that an amount of Rs 2 lakh was taken from her for FD on November 3, 2015, and a receipt was given to her which has now been found fake as there was no record pertaining to it with the society.
MLA Adampur Pawan Tinu has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused secretary in the case. SSP, Rural, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said while earlier the complaint was not in proper order, he had later asked them to send it in the name of the inquiry officials from the society for action to be taken.
