Perturbed over PTC relaying event, MLAs leave venue

Perturbed over the fact that a private channel owned by the SAD was relaying the Global Kabaddi League event that started on Sunday, senior Congress leader and MLA from Kapurthala Rana Gurjit Singh, along with two other MLAs, Laddi Sherowalia from Shahkot and Sushil Rinku from Jalandhar (West) left the venue within minutes after their arrival at the venue, leaving onlookers shocked.

The leaders said they got to know that the channel would relay the event, which they could not bear. One of them said it seemed like a drama and suffocating.

Laddi said their conscious did not allow them to sit in the event.

“The channel never shows any positive side of the government, even in my case they had propagated false information during the Shahkot by-elections, which was not true. Then why we should sit in the event,” the MLA said.

There was hardly any MLA there, he said. Even Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh was not present there,” Laddi said. Notably, only MLA from the district, Jalandhar (Central) Rajinder Beri, was present.

“There was no proper arrangements, but the fact that the channel was broadcasting the event was not acceptable at all,” Sherowalia said.

The MLA said he did not say anything to anyone.

“Organisers must understand themselves that the MLAs have gone, so there must be some issue,” Laddi said.

Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit Singh said it was not acceptable that the channel was telecasting the event.

“I couldn’t take the fact that they keep on showing bad things about the present government. Hence, no point in sitting there,” Singh said.

However, Ranbir Tut, who was the sponsor of the event, said he did not think that this was the case.

“I don’t have any knowledge regarding the issue. The department concerned and the government have given the approval. If such was the case, they would have never given us approval,” he said.
