PEDA joins hands with Education Department

JALANDHAR: In a major move to encourage the use of green energy at the bottom level, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has joined hands with the state school education department to create awareness among students about the importance of energy conservation as well as energy efficiency.

In a major move to encourage the use of green energy at the bottom level, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has joined hands with the state school education department to create awareness among students about the importance of energy conservation as well as energy efficiency.

Stating this here today, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, Kamal Kishore Yadav, said taking the concept of inclusive growth further, PEDA would work in close coordination with the Education Department in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Amritsar and Tarn Taran, under which school students would be engaged as ambassadors to further spread awareness among the masses about the use of renewable energy sources.

He said as a first step to mobilise departmental officials and students, block-level review meetings on impact on energy conservation and energy efficiency campaign were held at four blocks — Kartarpur, Bhogpur, Jalandhar East-3 and East-4.

He said special power point presentations were prepared to educate students about the use of energy efficient electrical appliances, ways of energy saving in domestic sectors, besides sensitising them for energy auditing of their homes and schools by PEDA officials.

Yadav said multi-national companies like Wipro, Orbit Fans and Havells would also be a part of the campaign under which they would display energy efficient electrical appliances and details of energy savings.

He said Punjab has a geographical advantage of having around 300 sunny days in a year, which is fully suitable to harness the maximum potential of solar energy. He said keeping in view the availability of abundant sun rays, the focus would be to aware the students about the use of solar energy. He said principals of all high and senior secondary schools in four districts had been asked to ensure conduct of special workshops at their respective schools, by collaborating with representatives of PEDA.
