Over Rs 22 lakh seized from passenger

The Phillaur police, headed by DSP Amrik Singh Chahal, today nabbed a currency smuggler and recovered Indian currency notes worth Rs 22,45,900.

This was stated by SSP (Rural) Navjot Singh Mahal while talking to mediapersons here today. He said the accused was identified as Harpal Singh, alias Pala, a resident of Fullowal village in Kapurthala. The accused was nabbed at a checkpoint set up by the Phillaur police near the Sutlej bridge when he was going towards Jalandhar in a Jalandhar-bound PRTC bus. Mahal said the seizure details had been sent to the Enforcement Directorate and the IT Department for further probe. — OC
