Officials get 7 addicts admitted to drug de-addiction centre

JALANDHAR: In a move to extend a helping hand to drug addicts so that they can shun drugs, officials got seven youths, hooked to drugs, admitted to the government de-addiction centre at the Civil Hospital here on Friday.

In a move to extend a helping hand to drug addicts so that they can shun drugs, officials got seven youths, hooked to drugs, admitted to the government de-addiction centre at the Civil Hospital here on Friday.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Sinha were present at the hospital.

The officials also gave financial assistance to some families of the addicts, who hail from Pholriwal, Jandiala and Qadian villages of the district.

During an interaction with the addicts, the DC and Police Commissioner urged them to take proper treatment so that they could also lead a normal life.

They said rehabilitation was the most important factor to bring the addicts to the mainstream. The officers said the state government was committed towards eradicating the drug menace from Punjab. They added that all kind of support would be offered to the addicts and their families.

The DC and Police Commissioner said it was encouraging that addicts were willing to get rid of this menace by getting treatment.

Civil Surgeon Dr Jaspreet Kaur Sekhon and Medical Superintendent of the Civil Hospital Dr KS Bawa were asked to make all requisite arrangements, including free treatment and yoga classes, at the centre.

Earlier, they met families of the addicts and doctors at the centre. They were apprised of the new policy of the government to offer free treatment to addicts belonging to the economically weaker sections.
