Number of dengue cases rises to 670

The number of patients, who have tested positive for dengue in the Kapurthala district, have touched 670 in recent weeks. Out of the 1,237 suspected cases, who reported with dengue like symptoms at local health institutions, 670 tested positive for the disease.

As many as 74 persons have tested positive for dengue during the last three days. Twenty six patients were confirmed to be suffering from dengue in Phagwara.

Though a separate ward was set up for dengue patients at the local Civil Hospital, not a single patient suffering from the disease got treatment as doctors referred them either to Jalandhar or Ludhiana. Senior medical officer could not be contacted for his comments despite repeated attempts. When contacted, Civil Surgeon, Kapurthala, Dr HS Kahlon, said adequate arrangements were being made at Civil Hospitals in district to treat dengue patients.
