NRI woman murdered in Koja village

JALANDHAR: Koja village in the Bhogpur police station of the district was today gripped with panic when an NRI woman from Canada was found murdered at her home early in the morning.

Koja village in the Bhogpur police station of the district was today gripped with panic when an NRI woman from Canada was found murdered at her home early in the morning. The deceased was identified as Surinder Kaur, wife of Kirpal Singh. The couple had come to visit their village in February, though the rest of their family is settled in Canada.

The murder took place early in the morning. The husband of the woman, Kirpal Singh, who has suffered a paralysis stroke, raised an alarm after the incident. Villagers took her to a private hospital at Adampur, where the doctors declared her dead. Sharp-edged weapons were used in the killing. The assailant(s) took away her gold jewellery and other valuables.

The police said prima facie, the motive behind the murder seemed to be robbery. The woman sustained grave injuries on her head that possibly resulted in her death. The police said when the woman went to the washroom early in the morning to take bath, the assailants, who were already present there, attacked her.

The police sent the body for post-mortem.
