Jalandhar, January 23

Already having set up a school at their hometown in Bilga, NRI couple Nina Tangri and Ashwani Tangri now want to pay back in another way.

The couple owns some shops here and is planning to set up a physiotherapy centre for the aid of the handicapped and aged persons.

“We have some shops which we have not sub-let. We now want to make use of these shops as a physiotherapy centre. We have already discussed our plan with the DAV Institute of Physiotherapy and they are ready to provide us staff,” said Ashwani Tangri here today.

Having paid obeisance at Golden Temple, Varanasi and other religious places, Nina, who is among the 15-odd contestants from Punjab for the June 7 provincial elections in Canada, has already returned after spending a fortnight here. With 10 per cent population in her constituency from Punjab, the couple has been garnering support from here too. Ashwani Tangri refused to talk much about the ban imposed by Ontario gurdwaras on the entry of Indian officials. “We are moderates and do not delve into these issues,” said Tangri who along with Nina, runs an insurance and finance company there. — TNS
