Jalandhar, July 22

Barely days after a formal issuance of notification regarding the appointment of Congress leader Tajinder Singh Bittu as the Chairman of PUNSUP, hoardings with congratulatory messages dot the entire city.

Several sites designated for paid advertisement by the MC have been used for putting up the hoardings, learnt to be sponsored by his supporters. These can be seen at almost all main intersections of the city.

Bittu said the notification regarding his appointment was issued on July 16 and that he had already joined the post.

“I intend to keep a small function in Chandigarh on Friday and another in Jalandhar day after to thank all my supporters,” he said.

Bittu was the chief of the JIT in the Congress’ previous term between 2002-07. He had been picked as the Jalandhar North Assembly segment candidate for the 2017 poll by the party but his ticket was handed over to Bawa Henry. A high-profile leader, his appointment is said to be a compensation for the party’s move at that time. — TNS
