Jalandhar, July 21

To save depleting groundwater table, the district administration has decided to enrol school students to apprise them of the importance of saving the groundwater by administrating oaths in the morning assembly.

Divulging the details, Jalandhar Deputy commissioner Kulwant Singh said: “The students will disseminate the message of “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” in their families and localities. It will help to make it a mass movement.”

”All ten blocks of the district have been declared over-exploited already and if we will continue to adopt such an attitude, the state will become a desert very soon, adding that excessive exploitation of water needs to be checked at every cost for which every individual should play his own role,” said the DC

He asked the students to accord their full support for making “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” a mass campaign to save the depleting groundwater level in the district.
