Liquor, meat shops on Shobha Yatra route to be closed

JALANDHAR: In view of the upcoming Shobha Yatra to mark Parkash Utsav of Saint Kabir on June 17, District Magistrate Kulwant Singh has ordered that all meat and liquor shops falling on the route of Shobha Yatra will remain closed on June 15.

In view of the upcoming Shobha Yatra to mark Parkash Utsav of Saint Kabir on June 17, District Magistrate Kulwant Singh has ordered that all meat and liquor shops falling on the route of Shobha Yatra will remain closed on June 15.

Exercising powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC), 1973, the District Magistrate has issued the order.

Shobha Yatra will start from Bhargo Nagar and pass through Nari Niketan, Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk, Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk (Jyoti Chowk), Basti Adda Chowk, Football Chowk, Veer Babrik Chowk, Model House, Guru Ravidass Chowk and come back to Bhargo Nagar.

He said the decision had been taken on account of religious importance of the yatra.

He added the opening of the meat and liquor shops on the route could create major law and order problem by hurting the sentiments of the people.

The route

Shobha Yatra will start from Bhargo Nagar and pass through Nari Niketan, Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk, Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk (Jyoti Chowk), Basti Adda Chowk, Football Chowk, Veer Babrik Chowk, Model House, Guru Ravidass Chowk and come back to Bhargo Nagar.
