Superintendent of Police (SP) Parminder Singh Bhandhal has appointed Station House Officer Jatinderjit Singh to investigate the entire case of a woman taking drugs in the city police station during custody even in the presence of three cops.

Bhandhal, while confirming it said here on Wednesday that the said accused woman had a criminal family background as her brother Gurjit was a vehicle thief and a case of theft had also been registered against him in Satnampura Police Station. Her mother Baksho was a proclaimed offender in a drugs case and is presently lodged in jail. Bhandhal said the police is searching for the said woman.

Bhandhal said the suspended Assistant Sub-Inspector Balbir Singh, Head Constable Hardip Singh and lady Constable Kuldip Kaur have been sent to police lines on the charge of dereliction of duty.

Bhandhal also said action was taken after watching a video–which went viral on social media — in which a young woman was seen taking drugs on the premises of Phagwara police station. The woman was identified as Sandeep Kaur of nearby Bhularai village.

Bhandhal also said the woman was arrested with 3-gm of heroin on March 30 and bailed out after a few days. The SP said the woman was missing for the past three months, adding that the role of the said police officials was being investigated in the matter.
