Incidents exposing links of police officials with drug peddlers are on the rise. A few days ago, such an incident had reported from Jalandhar. Today, the Nawanshahr police dismissed head constable Pritpal Singh for his alleged links with the drug peddlers.
Recently, a suspect, Sunny, was arrested with 20 gm of heroin and 20 intoxicant capsules and injections and a case under the NDPS Act was registered against him.
The police said during the interrogation, he had told them that he used to take drugs from an African national in Delhi and the head constable, Pritpal Singh, had introduced him to the African citizen. After taking the drugs from him, he would sell the same to a woman, Paramjit Kaur.
Later, Paramjit was also arrested and she too named the head constable in the case. After investigation, the police arrested the policeman and dismissed him.|
In another recent case in Jalandhar, while taking stern action against a policeman who was hand in glove with drug peddlers, Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar had dismissed an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) after he was found guilty during a probe.
While reiterating the commitment of the Police Commisisonerate to wipe out the drug menace from the district, Bhullar had said zero tolerance policy was being adopted by the force against drugs.
