In a unique initiative aimed at ensuring proper upkeep of the newly planted 250 saplings in the District Administrative Complex (DAC), Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said today that the administration would name the plants after the names of employees who would adopt them.

Presiding over a meeting here at the DAC, the Deputy Commissioner said the administration had decided to plant 250 saplings in the entire complex to provide green lungs in it.

He said during the plantation drive, trees of species such as amaltas, amla, Arjun, Bahera, Sirs, Bohar, Imli, Jaman, Kachnaar, Neem, Shisham, Sukhchain and others were planted in the complex.

Sharma said the employees of the administration would adopt one tree each and ensure its proper growth.

The Deputy Commissioner said the main aim was to make employees of the DAC an active partner of the campaign for planting more and more trees. The trees would be named after the employee who would adopt it, thereby ensuring emotional binding between the employee and the tree.

Sharma said it was the need of the hour to make the complex clean, green and pollution-free, thereby checking the environmental pollution in the state.

He also constituted a high-level committee comprising Col Balbir Singh (retd), superintendents Rajinder Sharma and Parminder Kaur, senior assistant Jagdish Saluja, steno Sukhwinder Kaur and junior assistants Tajinder Singh and Sandeep Kaur for effective monitoring of the campaign.

Sharma said under the drive, 250 plants were being planted in the complex, adding that these saplings had been given by Sant Baba Sewa Singh Kar Sewa Wale from Khadoor Sahib.

He said tree guards for protecting them had been given by Dr CS Pruthi, a renowned physician.

Sharma said a plantation drive was being held under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Paramvir Singh and horticulture expert Dr Jaswinder Singh Bilga.
