Taking a serious note of the increasing cases of swine flu and deaths reported due to the disease from the state, local MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh on Wednesday visited the Civil Hospital. During his visit, he reviewed the arrangements made to deal with swine flu.

He was told that three cases of swine flu (B Category) had been reported at the Civil Hospital so far. The MP was apprised that all patients were treated and discharged from the hospital.

CMO Dr Rajesh Bagga and MS of the Civil Hospital Dr Jasmeet Walia told the MP that the hospital had tied up with five medical institutions of the districts so that in case of emergency, patients can be shifted to a dedicated isolation ward of at least 25 beds.

The authorities said private hospitals had been instructed to report any suspected patient immediately so tests were conducted at the earliest.

As the Civil Hospital is also facing shortage of equipment to deal with dengue, the MP sanctioned Rs33 lakh from his MPLADS fund to purchase the Amicore Platelet Apheresis System with UPS and Donor Couch with Tube Sealer so that the required tests for dengue could be conducted at the hospital.

“I have sanctioned the funds for the required equipment and I hope that these will reach the Civil Hospital soon,” said Chaudhary Santokh Singh.
