Jalandhar, November 25

Missing for the past 10 days, a Bhogpur-based woman’s body was found from a pond of Sagranwali village here today.

The body of Gurmeet Kaur (50), wife of a landlord hailing from the same village, was found to be in a badly decomposed state. The Bhogpur police has so far proceeded on the matter as per section 174 of the CrPC since the family has not pointed fingers on anyone.

Family members had lodged a complaint with the police on November 15 that she had gone to a gurdwara in the morning but did not return. The residents of the village spotted her body in the pond this afternoon and informed the police.

The body of the victim was fished out of the pond by the police with the help of residents. Victim’s son and daughter too reached the spot and identified her on the basis of her clothes.

SHO, Bhogpur, Bharat Masih, said there was a possibility of the woman having slipped and fallen into the pond.

“Since the woman had some problem in her eyes and was also limping a bit, a fall in the pond seemed likely,” he said.
