Members of housing society meet officials to seek justice

Members of the Bibi Bhani Residential Welfare Association today met JS Klair, a retired judge and Judicial Member, State Commission, Punjab, Chandigarh, Karnail Singh, president, District Consumer Forum and Harvimal Dogra, executive member of the District Consumer Forum, to seek justice against the fraud committed by Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) which has not given the possession of flats to the allottees even after six years. 

The members of the society informed JS Klair that in 2009, the JIT allotted 51.5 acres for the development of Bibi Bhani Complex, announcing a self-financing scheme, in which a two-storeyed apartment, equipped with all basic facilities and good quality infrastructure was to be given. 

They said the JIT had asked the allottees to pay full payment at once or in 22 installments within six months till 2012 after which a 12.5 per cent interest was to be charged. 

The flats were priced at more than 10 lakh. The authority had promised the possession of the flats in 2012. However, even after six years, the trust had failed to provide the possession or refund the money with interest.

President of the Bibi Bhani Residential Welfare Association Darshan Singh Ahuja, while taking to The Tribune, said: “Our objective to meet JS Klair was to update him about the scams of the JIT. The trust had taken money worth lakhs from the allottees, but failed to provide good quality flats even after six years.”

He said as most of the allottees belong to the economically weaker sections, and had taken loans to pay for the property. 

“They asked justice Klair to intervene in the matter and help the allottees to get their money back with interest of six years,” he added

“The JIT has duped the people. Not a single penny has been spent on the development work in the district. Most of the projects of the JIT have failed, while where the money has been spent, the JIT has no answer” claimed Surinder Marwaha, chairman, Bibi Bhani Residential Welfare Association.

Surinder Marwaha said, Justice Klair, had asked the president, Consumer Forum Karnail Singh, to seek report of the Bibi Bhani Complex case from the JIT at the earliest. 

He said, JS Klair had promised that he would take the matter to the higher officials and made sure that the money of the allottees should be returned with  interest.
