Having interest in animation since his school days, city-based animator and cinematographer Jassi Chana (38), has finally carved a niche for himself by making and directing his first animated movie ‘Guru da Banda’, which was released worldwide recently.

While showing his studio, Preetam Film Production, which is situated at Maqsudan, here, Jassi said he had done the entire work of the movie there and it took around three years to him to make it. Talking about his journey and what made him to come up with the flick, Jassi said “I have studied animation from New Zealand and was looking forward since then to make an animation movie.”

He said from scenes to background score, everything has been done by him and his team using the latest technology and software. He said though the action thrillers and other animated movies showcasing fictional heroes were popular, he wants to start with something real that leaves an impact on the audience. The animated feature film is based on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, who was a Sikh military commander who established a Sikh state with its capital at Lohgarh.

Justifying his choice of subject, he said: “Youth of India know less about achievements of Banda Singh Bahadur and how he fought for the rights of the Sikhs. The movie is all about the great warriors of the Sikh history and their struggle against the Mughal Empire.”

Sharing the response he is receiving to the film, he said: “Though it’s just the start, the movie made good business abroad and people are sharing their views online. We are expecting that it will also be a hit in India.”

“My aim is to inspire youth. The movie also shows many unknown facts about Banda Singh Bahadur and the battle fought between him and Wazir Khan in 1709,” he said Satnam Chana, writer of the movie.
