MC team removes kiosks from city areas

JALANDHAR: To maintain smooth traffic flow, and encroachments in the city, the Tehbazari officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) initiated an action against the encroachers today and removed several kiosks from the Plaza Chowk, here on Monday.

To maintain smooth traffic flow, and encroachments in the city, the Tehbazari officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) initiated an action against the encroachers today and removed several kiosks from the Plaza Chowk, here on Monday.

The road leading to Jyoti Chowk and Rainak bazaar from the Plaza Chowk is the busiest road of the city and commuters mostly take up the road to avoid traffic congestion.

However, the extended kiosks by local vendors had shrinked the road. The space meant for the parking of vehicles along the road was also occupied ‘Rehdi’ owners.

They ofiicials also removed the makeshift tables of the roadside vendors and took away their items put up on sale.

The road was mostly occupied by the vendors, making garlands of notes. They had placed all raw material on the tables that were encroaching the MC property. Moreover garlands hanged on the trees were also seized by the officials as they claimed that the trees planted on the MC land couldn’t be used for displaying articles.

Tehbazari Superintendent Mandeep Singh said the drive was launched today to prevent the increasing number of accidents occurring due to the traffic snarls on the route. Seemingly, the length of the road was decreased to its half by the vendors. A total of 20 defaulters were challans and fines up to Rs 2,000 were recovered from them.
