Jalandhar, July 19

Taking a tough stand against the ‘unwarranted demand’ of the MC employees Union, Congress MLA Pargat Singh on Thursday managed to end the five-day strike without much hassle.

Pargat, who had visited the MC Complex for some work, was asked to address the MC staff sitting on a dharna.

Singh though justified the demand of the employees of getting their salaries on the first day of every month, he refused to defend the other demand pertaining to the premature closing of the Vigilance inquiry of the nine suspended officers before the completion of the probe.

Singh accused officials of causing a huge loss worth crores to the state exchequer by allowing the mushrooming of illegal buildings in the city.

He also suggested to constitute a self-help group which would provide loans on minimal interest and easy conditions to Class IV employees so as to get them out from the clutches of the loan mafia in the MC. — TNS
