Members of the 5178 Master Cadre Union (Punjab) presented a charter of demands to minister Bhagat Chunui Lal regarding their long-pending demands. The minister assured that their demands would be taken up with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

The minister told the members of the union that their demand for increase in salaries was valid. President of the union Rahul Kumar, while elaborating on the difficulties being faced by the teachers, said the government was paying them a mere Rs 6,000 per month in salaries.

He said it’s been over a year since the members were recruited in the Education Department. He said the members of the union meet all the conditions of the RTE Act, 2009 and are PSTET qualified, which was the prime requisite for meeting the RTE Act requirements.

The president of the union said the government was not paying heed to their long-pending demands, the foremost of which was an increase in their salaries.

Secretary of the union Narinder Kumar also spoke to the minister and sought the regularisation of service of the teachers and an increase in their salaries as soon as possible.

Rahul Kumar said the members of the union were at the receiving end, both financially and psychologically. While the union had over 2,500 members, many were finding it difficult to make ends meet because of the meagre salaries, the leaders said.

Balwinder Kumar, Mukesh Kumar Bhagat, Manjit Kaur and Avtar Chand, among others, were members of the union present on the occasion.
