Man duped of Rs 85,000 by travel agent

Hoshiarpur: The police have filed a case against a travel agent for allegedly duping Shashi Kapoor, a resident of village Sakurli of Rs 85,000 on the pretext of sending him to Dubai, on a two-year work permit.

Hoshiarpur: The police have filed a case against a travel agent for allegedly duping Shashi Kapoor, a resident of village Sakurli of Rs 85,000 on the pretext of sending him to Dubai, on a two-year work permit. He had filed a complaint with the police in this regard.

He said the travel agent Sandeep Rai alias Sandy, a resident of Baddoyan promised to send him to Dubai by arranging a two year work permit for him but sent him on tourist visa. He was stuck in Dubai where he contacted a person from his village. The person not only paid his fine of Rs 8,000 but also brought him an air ticket worth Rs 14,000. The complaint was investigated by Gaurav Dhir, in-charge of the Economic Offences wing. On the basis of the investigation report, the Mahilpur police have lodged an FIR against the accused under section 406 and 420 of the IPC.—OC
