Man driving car sans number plate held after chase

The local police arrested a man, who tried to escape in a Swift car without a number plate, near Chandigarh Chowk here on Friday.

The accused was arrested after a chase.

Cops in a PCR vehicle at the chowk received a message on wireless sets to install a barricade to check a car coming from the Balachaur side. As the car driver realised that the cops would stop him, he took a turn and tried to escape through alleys of the town.

During the chase, he even tried to run over the cops, who also fired two gunshots. After a while, he was arrested.

The accused has been identified as Satwant, a travel agent from Rakra Dhahan village in Balachaur. During a search, nine passports and three cheque books were recovered from him.

SP (Headquarters) Harish Dayama said so far, Satwant told the police that he got scared after seeing the cops as he was driving a car without a number plate.
