Man booked in dowry case

PHAGWARA: On a complaint lodged by a New Zealand-based NRI, Ramandeep Kaur, a resident of Rajasthan, through email sent to the NRI Cell, Mohali, the police have registered a case under Sections 498-A and 506, IPC, against her husband Amritpal Singh of Adarsh Nagar, here, for demanding more dowry and blackmailing her through social media.

On a complaint lodged by a New Zealand-based NRI, Ramandeep Kaur, a resident of Rajasthan, through email sent to the NRI Cell, Mohali, the police have registered a case under Sections 498-A and 506, IPC, against her husband Amritpal Singh of Adarsh Nagar, here, for demanding more dowry and blackmailing her through social media.

The police said: “Amritpal and Ramandeep went to New Zealand on a study Visa, where they fell in love and solemnised marriage at a gurdwara on June 15, 2016. Later, they came to Phagwara and re-solemnised the marriage at a gurdwara in Phagwara, on December 28, 2016.” He left studies midway and started working in New Zealand to help her continue her studies who got PR of New Zealand. But he was deported for discontinuing his studies.

Later, in depression he posted objectionable photos on social media due to which the girl approached the NRI Cell.— OC
