Man awarded life term for killing woman

HOSHIARPUR: The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Neelam Arora convicted Lakhwinder Singh alias Raju of Singhpur, the accused in the case of murder of a woman Satinder Kaur about one-and-a-half year ago.

The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Neelam Arora convicted Lakhwinder Singh alias Raju of Singhpur, the accused in the case of murder of a woman Satinder Kaur about one-and-a-half year ago. She was in a live-in relationship with him (Raju) after an estrangement from her husband, leaving the husband and two children.

Today, the court convicted and sentenced the accused Raju for life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. In the case of non-payment of the fine, the convict will have to undergo an additional imprisonment for six months.

The police station Chabbewal had registered a case of murder against Lakhwinder Singh on March 17, 2018 and had arrested him. The deceased's brother Gurdeep Singh of Jagatpur, tehsil Balachaur in district SBS Nagar, had told the police that after 18 years of marriage, she (Satinder Kaur) had an extramarital affair with Lakhwinder Singh alias Raju, a resident of Singhpur in Hoshiarpur, which caused tension in the family.

Later, according to an agreement in panchayat about 3 years ago, leaving her two children at husband’s, Satinder Kaur left her husband’s home along with her younger son and started living in Raju's house with him in live-in relationship.

Meanwhile, there was a quarrel between the two on the late night of March 16, 2018, during which Satinder had died due to serious head injury.
