Jalandhar, April 23

Having badly lost the three Assembly elections in 2007, 2012 and 2017, CPI (ML) New Democracy leader Kashmir Singh Ghugshore (40) again came in the fray today for his fourth elections and this time as the Jalandhar Lok Sabha candidate.

Ghugshore polled only 1,383 votes in 2017 from Kartarpur, 2,684 votes in 2012 from Shahkot and 790 votes in 2007 from Kartarpur, losing his security deposits every time. But he says that he had not lost hope.

Today, he came to file his papers in the DC Office along with his supporters, who carried red flags. Claiming to be running his poll campaign on the issues of unemployment, social oppression, rural labour, corruption, inflation, farmers’ suicides and others, Ghugshore said his main purpose to contest the elections was to raise the voice of people from downtrodden communities.

“For this reason, Dalits and people from the oppressed sections are my major vote bank,” he says.

In the nomination papers, though Ghugshore mentions that he is a diploma holder in welding, his only avocation is social work with nil income.

His wife’s occupation has been mentioned as labourer. His total personal assets are worth Rs 3,11,329, while those of his wife are only Rs 6,268. The total value of his movable assets include Rs 11,329 and immovable assets are

valued at Rs 3 lakh. Ghugshore says: “Elections can only be won through money, power and alcohol and I have none of them. Hence, my objective is to speak up for the rights of the suppressed class.”

Further, he termed the SAD, the BJP, the Congress and the AAP as capitalist parties, saying that they were only showing unrealistic plans to people and doing nothing to deal with core issues of Dalits, farmers and underprivileged sections. Notably, several protest marches and strikes were also organised in the city in the past year under his leadership.
