KVK celebrates World Soil Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur, celebrated World Soil Day on its premises here today. Maninder Singh Bons, Deputy Director, KVK, Hoshiarpur, threw light on the importance of the day. He also gave insight about various extension activities being carried out by KVK for the benefit of farmers of the area.

Mahinder Singh Dosanjh, a progressive farmer and member of the Research & Extension Council and Fruit & Vegetable Committee, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, exhorted the farmers to go for soil testing, which is a protective tool against irrational use of nutrients. He also gave a clarion call to the farmers to shun the practice of paddy residue burning, which deteriorates the soil fertility and human health.

Inderjit Singh Hundal, former associate director (retd), KVK, Hoshiarpur, encouraged the farmers to follow whatever PAU recommended. Dosanjh and Hundal distributed KVK soil health cards to farmers.

Vijay Bambeli, Soil Conservation Officer, Mahilpur, guided the farmers about various soil and water conservation practices.
