They are experienced. Neither they themselves nor the voters are going to stop. According to them, they will fight and their voters will make them win every time. Balraj Thakur, Surinder Kaur, Gian Chand and Jagdish Raja are the councillors from the Congress who have convinced the voters that they are the right choice for them.
Gian Chand, 70, who has won from ward number 70, is rejoicing his fifth triumph. He is unmarried and holds an honest image among the voters. When asked about people’s love towards him, he said, “Public kamm mangdi hai (public demands work) which has always remained my priority. I have made sure that whosoever comes to me with his or her problems, is treated well. I stand for even small work of people.”
“Due to the area being low lying, inundation is a big problem here. Even the water supplying pipes had got eroded which will be changed,” he said.
Jagdish Raja (63), a strong leader of the Congress, has won from the ward number 48. “My people are my family and they trust me. This is why I have won. I will continue to work like this for the development of the ward,” he said.
For Surinder Kaur (56) from ward number 39, it is her fourth win. Kaur is known as one of the few women councillors who work and remain active. She shared that she had first contested in 2002 and then there was no looking back. She said that after her husband’s demise who was a strong leader of the party, she accepted the challenge to carry on the works done by her husband. “It was not easy for me to take the responsibility at that time, but I took for the people, and now they are my family,” she said.
For her future plans, she shared that non-bumpy roads, working street lights along with the overall development would be her priority.
The winner from ward number 28, Balraj Thakur (64) has also become the councillor for the fourth time.
He says that it is a particular touch with the people which is why they vote for the same councillor always. “We as a councilor must understand all their problems and this thing surely works, dedication towards voters is must,” he said.
He said that he will now focus on social and environmental problems.
