IKGPTU to start Rs 630-crore centre for innovation soon

KAPURTHALA: The IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) is planning to start a new Centre for Innovation, Invention and Incubation (CIIITs) on its main campus, in association with Tata Technologies at a cost of Rs 630 crore.

The IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) is planning to start a new Centre for Innovation, Invention and Incubation (CIIITs) on its main campus, in association with Tata Technologies at a cost of Rs 630 crore.

Punjab Technical Education Minister Charanjit Channi, who was on the campus today to inaugurate a job fair, visited the computer labs of the centre and examined the machinery which had been brought as a part of the project. The IKGPTU is bearing 12 per cent cost of the project while the rest is being pumped in by the Tata Technologies.

Three classrooms, equipped with high-end desktops and built-in softwares have been set up. The workshop has already got machinery including a 3-D prototype printer.

Vice Chancellor (VC), IKGPTU, Dr Ajay Kumar Sharma said the centre would act as a finishing school for the students who have passed out diploma, graduate or postgraduate courses.

After completion of the course, the students would be absorbed by the company itself.

A satellite centre, under the scheme has also being set up at Sultanpur Lodhi which would be named after Guru Nanak Dev, in view of the upcoming 550th birth anniversary of the guru.

Addressing the inaugural session, the VC informed that a total of 52 companies from various sectors were participating in the job fair. There are more than 2,500 employment opportunities being provided by these companies.

The state government claims to have provided 5.35 lakh job opportunities to the young generation of state.

Minister Channi said the state government was going to organise up to 75 Mega Job fairs in this fourth phase of State Job Fairs at 10 places. In this phase under Scheme Ghar Ghar Rozgar government’s target is to provide maximum job opportunities to 10th, +12, diploma, graduate and postgraduate level students.

The members of a Viklang Association from Kapurthala also turned up to get jobs at the fair.
