Huge quantity of illegal firecrackers seized

On the instructions of the district administration, the city police, along with tehsildar Harminder Singh, today conducted raids to recover firecrackers being sold illegally in city’s most crowded and congested markets.

In Sheesh Mahal, Kashmiri Bazaar and Pratap Chowk, three shops were raided and huge quantities of illegally stored firecrackers were seized and two shops were sealed.

The administration and the city police have recovered a large number of crackers while raiding traders who illegally sell firecrackers under the guise of stationery shops. On the orders of the SDM, tehsildar Harminder Singh, SHO (City) Gobinder Kumar and police party raided Chopra Publications in the Sheesh Mahal Bazaar and recovered a large number of firecrackers. During a raid at Jain Stationery Mart in Kashmiri Bazaar, a large stock of firecrackers was recovered. Firecrackers were also found at Kulbhushan’s shop in the Pratap Chowk area.

Tehsil Harminder Singh said a large quantity of crackers being sold and stored illegally were recovered from two well-known stationery shops in the city during raids with the help of the police. The shopkeepers failed to show any licence for selling and storing firecrackers.

The SHO (City) said after recovering a large amount of firecrackers from three shops, FIRs against the owners, Harbans Lal Chopra, Bhushan Jain, Naresh Kumar Jain and Kulbhushan, under Sections 188 and 285, IPC, have been registered.
