Faridkot, August 29

At least 17 days after a woman, Priya (22), went missing from Hoshiarpur, her body was recovered from a house in Sadiq town of Faridkot on Wednesday.

For the alleged murder of the girl, the police have registered a criminal case against Gurinder Singh, a member of an orchestra party.

As per the police investigation, 24-year-old Gurinder Singh and Priya were members of an orchestra party.

The deceased was staying with Gurinder Singh in Patiala. It is believed that the woman died there on Monday.

Instead of informing her parents, the accused took the body to Sadiq, his home town, on Tuesday and after getting a tip-off, the police recovered the body on Wednesday and sent it to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, for autopsy. The police informed the family members of the deceased.

According to Jagsir Singh, a close relative of the deceased who reached Faridkot on Wednesday, Priya had left her house in Hoshiarpur on August 12 and the family had no information about her since then. Some days ago, there was a phone call from Priya who alleged that she was being tortured by Gurinder, Jagsir Singh said. The call was followed by another by Gurinder, telling that the condition of Priya was critical and there was no information about their location.

Today, we got information from the police about her death, said Meena Rani, mother of the deceased.

Jagandeep Kaur, officiating SHO, Sadiq, said the police had registered a criminal case under Section 302, IPC, against Gurinder.

The police are investigating the matter and the viscera report of the deceased has been sent to forensic laboratory at Kharar to know the cause of death and the allegations of the sexual assault, said Jagandeep Kaur.

The body has been handed over to the family members of the deceased.
