Hoshiarpur vote counting at Rayat-Bahra Educity, MSDC-ITI

HOSHIARPUR: The counting of votes for 9 assembly segments for the Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency will be held at 2 counting centres set up at Rayat-Bahra Educity on the Chandigarh road and the MSDC-ITI on the Jalandhar road.

The counting of votes for 9 assembly segments for the Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency will be held at 2 counting centres set up at Rayat-Bahra Educity on the Chandigarh road and the MSDC-ITI on the Jalandhar road.

The counting will start at 8 am on Thursday. The counting of votes for 3 assembly segment of Shri Hargobindpur, Bholath and Phagwara will be done at Multi Skills Development Centre at ITI in Hoshiarpur and 6 assembly constituencies Mukerian, Dasuya, Urmar, Shamchurasi, Hoshiarpur and Chabbewal at Rayat-Bahra Educity. In the presence of General Observer (GO) for Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency Jai Prakash Shivhare, the District Electoral Officer-cum-returning officer Isha Kalia reviewed the arrangements of the counting process. They also visited the media centres set up at both places.

Kalia directed the poll staff to cooperate with security personnel and not bring the mobiles with them, adding that according to the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), slips of 5 randomly-selected VVPAT machines from every assembly segment will also be counted in the presence of the GO, counting agent or candidates.

“Only the persons authorised by the Election Commission will be admitted to the counting centre. Videography of the counting of votes will be done officially. The counting agents, who have been issued identity cards by the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO), will be allowed to sit at their designated seats only,” added Isha Kalia.

The DEO said no person would be allowed to take mobiles inside the counting centre. There will be restrictions on the admission of any vehicle on the premises of the counting centres. “On May 23, the dry day has been declared in the district, during which the liquor vends will remain closed and the sale of liquor will be banned,” she added.
