Almost nine months ahead of Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary, hoardings bearing pictures of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh inviting devotees to the big event at Sultanpur Lodhi have already been put across the important intersections of the city.

Since Lok Sabha poll are drawing near, the state government has got erected as many as 11 types of hoardings all across the city which include one on Gurpurb. The government is learnt to have spent Rs 20 lakh on putting up these hoardings. The other most prominent one is on the Buddy programme under the drug de-addiction scheme.

The remaining nine types of hoardings relate to government’s achievements in the past 21 months. The state government could not clearly wait for two years to complete for putting up these hoardings as by March, the election code could be in place and the government would not be able to spend the money at that time. Similar hoardings have come up in other cities too, including Kapurthala, where Rs 10 lakh have been spent on the same.
