Accident cuts short one life 

Phagwara: Swaran, a resident of Reru village, near Jalandhar, died on the spot when a speeding bus hit his scooter near a ditch on the national highways on Tuesday evening. The deceased was coming from Jalandhar. The police have registered a case and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for autopsy. The driver of the bus managed to escape from the spot leaving the bus behind.OC

15 booked in land dispute case

Phagwara: The police have booked 15 persons of two different groups under various Sections of the IPC in a land dispute case in nearby Seekri village on Monday. Nine of them have been arrested, while others are still at large.OC

ASHA workers hold protest

Nawanshahr: ASHA workers on Tuesday held a protest in Nawanshahr and burnt the effigies of Health Minister Brahm Mohindra and Education Minister OP Soni. They raised slogans against them. The workers demanded that their salaries should be hiked to Rs 8,500. They also demanded that they should not be considered under village health sanitation committee. BSP protests against MC

Phagwara: Activists of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led by Punjab BSP president Rashpal Raju and Phagwara unit president Chiranji Lal Kala, on Tuesday held a  demonstration against the MC for its alleged failure to take preventive measures to control dengue fever, which has been spreading in the town rapidly. They burnt effigies of Mayor Arun Khosla and Phagwara MLA Som Parkash near Rest House Chowk. The protesters held a march and submitted a memorandum to Phagwara ADC Babita Kaler. They said the MC did nothing to maintain cleanliness in the town. OC
