Health teams collect 20 samples of food products from outlets

JALANDHAR: To check adulteration in food items under the Tandarust Punjab mission, a team of the Health Department, including District Health Officer Balwinder Singh and Food Safety Officer Rashu Mahajan, today inspected different food establishments and eatery joints in the city and took 20 samples of food items.

To check adulteration in food items under the Tandarust Punjab mission, a team of the Health Department, including District Health Officer Balwinder Singh and Food Safety Officer Rashu Mahajan, today inspected different food establishments and eatery joints in the city and took 20 samples of food items.

The inspection was conducted to check the quality of food products, especially ghee and other milk products, being sold and served at various outlets.

Hotel Country Inn at BSF Chowk, Vishal Mega Mart and Superfast Vegetarian at BMC Chowk, Easyday Club at Gurugobind Singh Avenue and Metro Cash and Carry at the Pathankot bypass were inspected. Seven food samples as well as dairy products, comprising two samples of ghee, two samples of dal, a sample of tamarind, a sample of samolina (sooji), and a sample of dates were taken from Vishal Mega Mart. Two samples of paneer and sauce were taken from Superfast Vegetarian. Four samples of paneer, khoya, sauce and kabuli chana were taken from Country Inn.

Three samples of ghee were taken from Easy Day Club and four samples of ghee were taken from Metro. A total of 20 samples were collected during the inspections.

Rashu Mahajan said all collected samples had been sent for analysis to the State Food Lab and action would be taken as per reports. The manager at Country Inn was also found dealing with online food service without licence. — TNS
