A 29-year-old youth here today committed suicide after being allegedly harassed by a travel agent.

The youth, in his suicide note, has mentioned the name of the travel agent and his accomplice for harassing him from the past one year.

The victim’s father, Tirath Ram, a resident of Guru Nanak Pura, told The Tribune that the agent had taken Rs 2 lakh from him for sending his son to South America. “Later, he took my son up to Georgia and began harassing him both mentally and physically. He even took away Rs 2.50 lakh deposited in his bank,” claimed Tirath Ram.

Finding no positive outcome, Naveen somehow escaped from their custody and managed to get money to buy a return ticket to India. He came back on December 22 last year and lodged a formal complaint with the then Police Commissioner Arpit Shukla.

“However, on finding that nothing much could be done in the case and following repeated threats by the agent and his men, my son today committed suicide,” said the grieving father.
