Grant pending for police animals

The pending arrears amounting to Rs 5 lakh, meant for the ration money of the animal squad of the city police, have not been released since August. The district treasury has not released the money despite requests, said the sources.

The horses and dogs, have been surviving on the leftover chapattis brought from the police mess situated in the complex. The fresh ration, comprising of eggs and milk, too, is being fetched on credit basis by a local vendor.

When contacted, Pravin Sinha, Police Commissioner, said the matter had been taken up with the District Treasury Office and the money would be released soon.

The department is also facing shortage of funds as the district treasury has not released its electricity and water bills amounting to Rs 50 lakh and also Rs 10 crore arrears pertaining to TA/DA claims of the cops.
