The Government Elementary School, Jhans village of Hoshiarpur district has emerged as the role model for the government schools of the entire state. It is no less than convent schools. This English medium school with its beautifully decorated classrooms, neat and tidy uniform of the students, clean and green campus, disciplined environment and other facilities, has become the preferred choice of the people of the region for their wards.

The credit for the overall transformed look goes to the teacher couple Narinder Arora and his better half Manjit Kaur.

Appreciating the good work of the State Awardee Narinder Arora, the Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal said the other teachers must also emulate the fine example set up by the Jhans school and make strides in the educational sector..

The state awardee teacher Narinder Arora said at one point of time the Government Elementary School at Jhans had only 17 students from Nursery to 5th standard, but now with their hardwork, the strength of the students had increased from 17 to 213 as students from nearby convent schools also prefer to study here. He also said special classes are held for weak students every Sunday from 9 am to 12 pm, 4 days a week.

Arora added that the students are also being taught from general knowledge books apart from those prescribed by the Punjab School Education Board. He also said the school is also excelling in the academic field and besides this, van, auto and bus services are also available for the facilitation of students. Disclosing more, he said the school also prepares the students for gaining admission into the Jawhar Navodaya Vidyalaya and other high profile institutions. He disclosed that 4 students of the school have also been selected in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

He also said he was in regular touch with the parents of the children and gives them regular feedback regarding their wards. He added that the students of the school are also carving out a niche for themselves by excelling in Giddha, Bhangra and calligraphy competitions.

Arora also brought to the fore that the students of the school have managed to clear 12 rounds and have reached the grand finale of ‘Kisme Kitna Hai Dum’ programme being telecast on DD Punjabi channel. Many others have adding feather to the school’s cap by participating in debates and declamations at various levels.
