Jalandhar, January 25

Among the policemen chosen to be honoured on the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations in Jalandhar is Goyara SHO Jatinderjit Singh.

He will be honoured for his extraordinary contribution in capturing the gangster Goru Bacha along with his companions on January 15.

The notorious gang was alleged to be involved in several land-grab cases and heinous crimes across the state. The police had seized nine pistols, one .12 bore double barrel rifle, 62 live cartridges, a Scorpio and three motorcycles from him. Speaking to Jalandhar Tribune, SHO Jatinderjit Singh said the gangster was in the town in a bid to beat someone. “We got a tip-off from sources and nabbed the gang before it committed any crime. A police team was working under me for the purpose,” he added.

The SHO was also honoured at the Republic Day function in 2012 when he was posted in Ludhiana for his contribution to nab criminals. “I feel encouraged because of such honours. It makes me work harder,” he added.

It is notable that four others, who were to give the gang Rs 2.5 lakh to kill persons involved in the amputation of Arun of Rawalpindi, were also arrested. The SHO said the gang’s kingpin Goru Bacha was a friend of dreaded gangster Sukha Kahlwan, who was killed in police custody last year. He reportedly wanted to revive the Sukha gang to take revenge from those who killed Sukha.
