Ginni makes it to ‘Khelo India’, to participate in judo event

Ginni (16), a student of Government Sr Sec Girls School, Nehru Garden, will participate in the ‘National School Games’, to be held in Pune this month.

She is a judo player who has won many awards and medals. She will participate in (U-63) kg category.

She has already won a silver medal at the national-level meet, which was held in Telangana, in the past apart from a bronze medal which she had won last year in the ‘Khelo India Games’.

Sudhir Kumar, the coachof Ginni, said: “I am proud that Ginni, has been groomed under me.”

Reality of the sports at government schools abysmal despite that students from some of the schools shine and are making to state and the national-level.

The majority of other schools do not have teachers to train the students.

According to the latest data, there are about 200 posts of Director, Physical Education, in the district. Of these, only 35 have been filled. Of the posts of PTEs as well, only about 200 have been filled, while over 250 are vacant. The last time recruitments were made in 1994.

Barring five physical education lecturers, recruited a few weeks ago, no other recent recruitment has been made.

One of the principals that sans any sports teachers said: “The Education Department do not have proper sports teachers. Even we want our students to perform well in sports.

Whenever there is any sports activity at the district-level, we ask the teachers of other subjects to ‘train’ them,” she said.
