Jalandhar:Punjabi University, Patiala, won the 3rd All- India Inter-Varsity Gatka (Men) Championship that concluded here on Saturday at Sant Baba Bhag Singh University (SBBS), Khiala, Jalandhar. Host university and Guru Nanak Dev University, (GNDU) Amritsar, stood second and third respectively. Gatka player of Punjabi University Mandeep Singh of Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, was declared as the best player of the tournament. During the two-day event, 16 universities confirmed their participation.Chancellor, SBBS University Sant Baba Dilawar Singh handed over the prizes to the winners  accompanied by AIU observer and president of National Gatka Association of India (NGAI), Harjeet Singh Grewal and university director sports Dr Pritam Singh. Addressing the gathering Baba Dilawar Singh exhorted the present to adopt Gatka. He said Gatka is a traditional game inherited from Guru Sahibans and it inculcates good qualities among the children. National Science Day 

Jalandhar: CV Raman Science Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the patronage of principal Dr Ajay Sareen celebrated National Science Day on the theme ‘Science for people and people for science.’ As many as 550 students of botany, biotechnology, bioinformatics, chemistry, physics and the department of zoology participated in the event.  The department of chemistry organised a workshop on checking adulteration in food like milk, spices, grains and made home science students and science students aware about the treatment of fruits and vegetables in kitchen to remove pesticides to appreciable extent. Poster, slogan and rangoli competitions were also held on the occasion. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen congratulated all faculty members and  HoDs of the departments of science. TNS
