The Commissionerate of Police on Thursday busted a gang involved in arranging bogus sureties and forged papers to the bail seekers and arrested six accused persons near the Judicial Complex.

The accused have been identified as Vaneet Kumar (41) of Model House, Jiwan Kumar (41) of Jandu Singha in Jalandhar, Sukhpal Singh (60) of Fatehpur Jhambal, Vishal Singh (36) of Hakeema Gate, Manoj Kumar (36) of Pawan Nagar in Amritsar district and Amarjeet Singh (30) of Aliwal Jattan village in Gurdaspur district.

Manoj was arrested from his house on Thursday and the rest were nabbed on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said acting on a tip-off, a team, led by Sub-Inspector Ravinder Singh, raided outside hotel President and arrested five of the accused on Wednesday. The police seized fake UID cards, forged land records, bogus stamps of patwaris, Kanungos and tehsildars, colour printer, etc, from their possession.

Bhullar further briefed that Vaneet and Jiwan were working as ‘munshi’ with two advocates and whenever anyone contacted for fake documents and sureties to get bail, they used to intimate Sukhpal Singh. Sukhpal Singh would arrange a person who had to appear in the court as surety and had to submit the documents in the court for the bail seeker.

Amarjeet had come to Jalandhar on Wednesday along with Sukhpal as surety and a fake UIDAI card carrying his picture was prepared which was to be used in the bail seeking process.

In addition, Bhullar said Vishal had appeared as fake surety in Jalandhar and Sangrur courts in the past and was charging Rs 1,000-2,000 and Manoj used to arrange a fake UID card in the computer and was charging Rs 500 for one card.

A case under Sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered against all the accused at the Navi Baradari police station. Besides, Jiwan, Sukhpal and Manoj were also facing criminal cases in various police stations of Amritsar and Jalandhar.
