Ludhiana subdue Jalandhar in badminton championship

Ludhiana beat Jalandhar in the finals of the U-19 Punjab Junior Badminton Championship at Raizada Hansraj Stadium in the city. As many as 150 players of around eight districts in the state are competing for various events in the U-17 and U-19 categories for boys and girls, which will culminate on September 27.

The individual event for the single, doubles and mixed will now be held in the U-17 and U-19 boys and girls categories, respectively.

All-India S Balwant Kapoor Memorial Hockey Tourney

All preparations have been completed to host the XIIth edition of the All-India S Balwant Singh Kapur Memorial Hockey Tournament for Mata Parkash Kaur Cup (for boys U-17) which will be held at Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park from December 6 to 13. The tournament will be organised in the memory of Balwant Singh Kapur.

According to Olympian Sanjeev, the tournament was started in the year 2004 and eleven successful editions have brought this competition in the line of top tournaments of the country. He further informed that the tournament would be played on the league-cum-knock out basis.

All top teams from across the country will lock horns for the glittering running trophy and Mata Parkash Kaur Cup. The salient features of this competition are to spot, highlight and award special talent in the field of hockey.

Consequently, the best goalkeeper, full back, half back, forward and the highest scorer along with the most promising player of the tournament will also be awarded special cash prizes.

Around 15 players from this tournament have already donned Olympic and Indian junior team colour and hockey India league since inception of the tournament. The tournament will be supervised by umpires of national and International repute.

Satluj School sails into semis

Satluj Public School, Panchkula (Haryana) will face MGN School in the first semifinals of the 16th Bhai Gobind Singh Pasricha Memorial All India (U-19) Cricket Inter School Tournament to be played on Saturday.

Earlier Satluj School defeated Durga Public School, Solan (HP). Satluj won the toss and opted to bat. The school scored 149 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. However, chasing the target of 150 runs, Durga School could only score 64 runs.

In the second match played between Vidya Jain public school, New Delhi and Happy Days School Shivpuri (MP).Happy School won the toss and decided to bat. It scored 191 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs and set a target of 192 runs for Vidya Jain School. However, Vidya Jain school lost to Happy School by 18 runs.

The occasion was graced by city Mayor Sunil Jyoti and SP Navjot Singh Mahal from the Punjab Armed Police (PAP), Jalandhar.
