Tanda Urmar (Hoshiarpur), November 17

Disrupted rail traffic due to the farmers’ protest in Garna Sahib proved beneficial as it saved lives of railway passengers today.

Had there not been the farmers’ agitation, there could be derailment of trains on the Jalandhar-Jammu rail section near Tanda as a rail track was found fractured near Tanda when two youths, who were passing from near the track, saw it in the evening. The rail traffic remained stalled on this section for the whole day. The duo informed railway officials through Jagjivan Jaggi, a local councilor. Malwa Express and Ahmedabad-Jammu Tawi Express were supposed to run on this track.

JE Ravi Shankar Gupta of the railways said the track was damaged due to the cold weather as such problems occur in the winter season. The track was under repair when the report was filed. — OC
