Farmers’ problems solved at kisan mela

A large number of the farmers attended the District level kisan mela of Punjab Agricultural University organised at the Kheti Bhawan, Hoshiarpur on Wednesday. The university experts gave the farmers a good hearing, provided apt solutions to their problems and acquainted them of the latest farm practices and technologies. The stalls set up at the mela made available to the farmers, useful farm literature, seeds, tools and farm equipment.

MLA Sunder Sham Arora was the chief guest at the mela. He was all praise for the role played by PAU for the development of agriculture in Punjab and for improving the lot of the farmers.

He appealed to the farmers to follow the field practices recommendations for agricultural technologies and techniques suggested by PAU scientists.

Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal asked the farmers to use fertilizers judiciously only after soil testing and adopt subsidiary occupations. He emphasised upon cutting down unnecessary expenditure and using water, fertilizers and insecticides sparingly.

Sarbjit Singh, Director Agriculture, appealed the farmers to opt for hybrid seeds to ensure better crop production. He also asked the farmers to attend various training programmes organised at KVKs and maintain kitchen gardens for increasing agricultural income. Vinay Kumar, Chief Agriculture Officer, Hoshiarpur advised the farmers to attend Kisan melas organised to disseminate information about the latest agricultural technologies.
